Laird Ronald H. Thomson of Jura

Do I really get to own the land on the Isle of Jura?

Yes, the offer is completely genuine and entirely legal. You will have full legal ownership of the land, confirmed by your title document to be issued in due course. The documents have all been drawn up by a Scottish Lawyer to ensure they fully comply with Scottish law.  Oh, by the way the picture used on your title certificate shows  Small Isles Bay with those majestic Paps behind the main village of Craighouse. You will get to see a similar view from your own plot of land (we can't guarantee the boats).

What other costs are involved? Will I have to pay any legal fees?

There are no further costs involved. You will not have to pay any additional legal costs or similar charges as we have arranged for the land to be held in trust on your behalf. Once you have paid for the land you own the land for all time without any further charges.

What about taxes on the land?

There are no other taxes to be paid on the land.   All taxes are included in the prices quoted.

Can I visit the land and see my land?

Yes, you will receive full access information on the location of the land plots and you are free to visit or view your land at any time. In fact we encourage you to do so by giving you a discount accommodation voucher to stay at the local Jura Hotel. However we do ask that you do not try to get too close to the deer during their rutting season just so they can breed in peace.

Is the offer only available to people of Scots descent?

Although I am a Scot by birth anyone can participate in our offer Scottish ancestry is not required. In the past people from the USA, Canada, Japan, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Germany, India, Switzerland, France, Nigeria, Columbia, England and even Scotland have acquired their own Scottish estate from us.  This unique gift would make an ideal present for any ex-pat Scottish friends including those of Scottish descent — all Scots would love to have a link like this back to their homeland.

How many plots of land can I buy?

You can buy as many as you want for yourself or to give as gifts to other people (subject to land availability of course).  Incidentally we find that about 65% of all purchases are meant as gifts for others.

If I buy enough land can I build on it?

No. Naturally the land does belong to you and no one can quarrel with you about that but the land is to be left in its natural state for the local wildlife and other Lairds and Ladies wanting to enjoy the views from their own plots. However on one visit I did find someone had built a small house out of Lego ® bricks and left it behind. I loved their sense of fun!

Will I really be a Laird or Lady?

Yes you will be! Each plot of land gives the owner the legal right to bear the title "Laird". With each plot purchased the laird (owner of Scottish land) receives a handsome title certificate together with location details. Suitably framed, that land title deed (which under Scots law and custom allows the owner usage of the tile "Laird") makes a most impressive wall or desk display. It makes a unique gift for anyone interested in Scotland and its history and is sure to find pride of place in their home or office.

What Title does a lady have?

The title "Laird" in Scotland means "an owner of land". It can be therefore apply equally to both men and women. However by custom a female Laird is usually called Lady.

Will the Laird title be shown in my Passport/Driving Licence?

We cannot guarantee that this will be done. The title Laird is a recognized title all over the world however one cannot officially register the title as it is not a component part of the name. You will need to check in your own country to see if this can be done. Given the recent concerns about false identities and terrorism (as well as money laundering) security agencies may wish to make their own enquiries as why you wish to change your name.  However if you are a Laird or Lady of Jura and are applying for a new UK passport soon let us know and we can supply you with legitimate ways you can include your Laird or Lady title.

Is the Laird a member of the aristocracy?

No. Definitely not! The title Laird means landowner and is acquired through the purchase of land in certain parts of Scotland. The titles of the aristocracy cannot be bought. They are awarded by the state. You do not receive a seat in the House of Lords (Parliament). Those titles have been awarded by the Royal Monarch in the past to individuals or a family member in previous generations.

Is the title inheritable?

Yes! The land and title, as well as the all the rights of use, are fully inheritable and remain in the possession of your family.

Do I get a "Coat of Arms" with this title?

This offer does not include a coat of arms but there is nothing to stop you later designing one or getting an official body to design and register one for you. We can even suggest people who can research your family name and history to discover one that you may already be entitled to wear or alternatively design one from scratch specifically for you although the latter works relatively expensive.

How legal is this?

The legalities of Scottish Law are, we believe, clear that Scottish land ownership allows use of the term Laird. All the land sale and transfer documentation have also been drawn up a Scottish Solicitor to ensure it meets with Scottish Law.

How long does it take to receive the title documents after I have placed an order?

It can take up to 2 days (but usually far less) to prepare the title documents before they are physically ready to be sent to you.  If you are ordering a Package then please be aware it will be sent to you by first class post if in the UK (or by airmail if outside) as soon as possible after completion of the title certificate.

If you are looking for any other questions to be answered please contact me through my help desk. I apologize for asking you to do this but I get so many spam type emails I may not see your email before it is filtered out and potentially deleted.
